World Time Zone Map
A map of the 24 time zone bands with the current time in each, and live clocks for major cities. Tap a dot to see the time there.
Quick answer: The world is divided into time zones that are about 15 degrees of longitude wide, each one hour apart from its neighbour. Tap a city on the map to see its live local time. Real zone borders follow countries and regions, so the bands on this map are only a guide.
How to use it
- The coloured vertical bands are nominal time zones. The label at the top is the UTC offset and the time at the bottom is the standard time for that band right now.
- Tap or click a city dot to see its live local time, the date and how far ahead or behind you it is.
Time zones by UTC offset
| UTC offset | Example places (standard time) |
|---|---|
| UTC−10 | Hawaii |
| UTC−9 | Alaska |
| UTC−8 | Pacific: Los Angeles, Seattle |
| UTC−7 | Mountain: Denver, Phoenix |
| UTC−6 | Central: Chicago, Mexico City |
| UTC−5 | Eastern: New York, Toronto |
| UTC−3 | Brasília and São Paulo, Buenos Aires |
| UTC+0 | London (winter), Reykjavik, Accra |
| UTC+1 | Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome, Lagos |
| UTC+2 | Johannesburg, Athens, Helsinki |
| UTC+3 | Moscow, Istanbul, Nairobi, Riyadh |
| UTC+4 | Dubai |
| UTC+5:30 | India: Mumbai, Delhi |
| UTC+7 | Bangkok, Jakarta |
| UTC+8 | Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, Perth |
| UTC+9 | Tokyo, Seoul |
| UTC+10 | Sydney and Melbourne (standard time) |
| UTC+12 | Auckland (standard time) |
Not every zone is a whole hour: India is UTC+5:30, Nepal is UTC+5:45 and parts of Australia use half hours. Many places move their clocks an hour in summer for daylight saving time, and the cities on the map use today's real rules. Map outlines are from Natural Earth, which is in the public domain.

Questions
How many time zones are there?
There are 24 standard one-hour bands, but real life has more than 30 offsets in use, because some zones are half-hour or 45-minute steps and some countries span several zones.
What is UTC?
Coordinated Universal Time, the world's time standard. Time zones are written as hours ahead of or behind UTC.
Why do some places look out of step with the bands?
Governments choose their time zones, so borders follow countries and regions and not straight lines of longitude.
