Calorie Calculator

Estimate the calories you burn each day from your age, sex, size and activity.

Quick answer: Enter your age, sex, weight, height and activity. For example a 30-year-old woman who is 70 kg, 170 cm and moderately active burns about 2,250 calories a day. This is an estimate, not medical advice.

How to use it

  1. Type your age, weight in kilograms and height in centimeters, and choose your sex.
  2. Choose how active you are in a typical week.
  3. The calories to keep your weight appear, with rough targets for slow loss and gain.

The equation

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for resting energy (BMR): 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × age, then +5 for men or −161 for women. That is multiplied by an activity factor of 1.2 to 1.9 to estimate your daily needs.

General information only, not medical advice. Ask a doctor or a dietitian about your own health.

Activity factors

LevelFactor
Little or no exercise1.2
Light, 1 to 3 days a week1.375
Moderate, 3 to 5 days a week1.55
Hard, 6 to 7 days a week1.725
Very hard or a physical job1.9

A pound of body fat is often said to equal about 3,500 calories, so a daily gap of 500 calories is about a pound (0.5 kg) a week. Real results vary, and very low calorie diets should be supervised by a doctor.
